MANILA, Philippines–Justin Brownlee surpassed a legendary Barangay Ginebra legend for fourth on the all-time scoring list among imports in a losing effort as the Gin Kings fell short to the San Miguel Beermen in their PBA Governors’ Cup meeting on Friday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Brownlee made the first basket in the 102-99 defeat to move past the late Lew Massey, who scored 5,386 points during his stint with Presto and Ginebra’s former name Gilbey’s Gin in the early-80s.

Massey played just three seasons, first with Presto in 1981 before suiting up for Gilbey’s Gin from 1982 to 1983. He averaged 43.4 points in 124 games in the league.

Only Billy Ray Bates, another ex-Ginebra reinforcement, had a higher scoring average by a foreign cager with 46.2 points.

He once held the record for most points in a single game, scoring 85 points against Crispa in 1982. Massey also powered the franchise to its first finals appearance the same year but lost to Toyota for the Open Conference crown.

Brownlee finished with 21 points but Ginebra dropped to 3-2 with a second straight loss.

He is way behind Alaska legend Sean Chambers, who is third on the all0with 8,225 points.

Current Meralco coach Norman Black still holds the mark with 11,329 followed by seven-time Best Import Bobby Parks with 8,955.
