National team slots at stake in table tennis tilt

MANILA, Philippines—Slots for the national team are at stake in the Philippine Table Tennis Federation Inc. (PTTF) National Selection from February 22 to 26 at Puerto Princesa Sports Complex.

About 80 participants in the men’s and women’s divisions will see action as they compete for a chance to be part of the Philippine team in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia in May.

Hosted by Puerto Princesa City, the competition is part of the local government’s plans of making the city a table tennis hub in the future.

“The best players from all over the country will battle it out in Puerto Princesa to determine who will represent the country in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games,” said PTTF president Ting Ledesma.

“We thank the people of Puerto Princesa especially Mayor Bayron for their support. We are planning on making Puerto Princesa the center of table tennis in the country.”

Among PTTF’s plans is hosting an intentional competition in Puerto Princesa after the national selection tournament.

“Puerto Princesa will witness something special,” said PTTF secretary general Pong Ducanes.

The matches for the national selection tournament will be streamed on PTTF’s official Facebook account. Celest Flores-Colina
