PVL: Akari notches first win, extends Army’s woes
MANILA, Philippines—Akari posted its first win at the expense of hapless Army-Black Mamba, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference Tuesday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat carried the Power Chargers, who improved to 1-3, with a game-high 23 points.
“We already felt [the win] because every time, in our games, we keep on saying that as long as we win one set, it will keep on going. We know, as a team, we’ll wake up when we get a set and it [momentum] just keeps going,” said Santiago-Manabat.
Akari’s breakthrough victory also sent the Lady Troopers to their 16th consecutive loss dating back to the elimination round of the Invitationals last year.
Chiara Permentilla added 13 points while Ezra Madrigal chipped in 10 points for the Chargers.
With Army facing a 0-2 set deficit, Royse Tubino kept the Lady Troopers alive in a back-and-forth third set.
Tubino paced Army with 20 points while Jeanette Villareal had 10.
The Lady Troopers dropped to 0-3 this conference.
Akari bounced back from a 23-25, 20-25, 14-25 loss to Cignal last Tuesday.
