MANILA, Philippines—PLDT handed Chery Tiggo its first loss in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference with a 25-13, 25-22, 27-25 sweep on Tuesday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The High Speed Hitters claimed their second consecutive victory after dropping their opener in a five-set loss to F2 Logistics last February 7.
“Coming into this game, their mindset was the most important factor for the win. We remind them that even if we don’t have the big names, even if we are still on the rebuilding phase because of the new system being applied, there’s always a chance to win,” told Ricafort in Filipino.
“We’re blessed to get the win today but tomorrow, we work right away because our schedule is tight,” he added.
Jovielyn Prado delivered the game-clinching hits as PLDT snapped Chery Tiggo’s three-game winning streak.
Four High Speed Hitters finished in double-digits led by Mary Anne Mendrez’s 14. Prado finished with 12 points, while Dell Palomata and Mich Morente had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Rhea Dimaculangan also played an instrumental role for PLDT with 21 excellent sets.
Mylene Paat led all scorers with 16 points for Chery Tiggo, which also drew 10 points from EJ Laure.
After blowing past the Crossovers in the opening set, the High Speed Hitters needed a 7-4 spurt capped by Palomata’s kill to grab a 2-0 set advantage.
PLDT zoomed to a 16-5 lead in the first set and never looked back.
