MANILA, Philippines—Mich Morente said PLDT coach Rald Ricafort’s faith in her capability was a big factor in her early success in the PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Morente has emerged as a key piece for the High Speed Hitters, who picked up the former Ateneo spiker last month. Morente suited up for Army last season.

After PLDT’s 25-13, 25-22, 27-25 win against the Crossovers, Morente made sure to thank Ricafort for giving her trust en route to the squad’s second conference win in three games.

“I want to thank coach because, of course, he gave me what I’ve been waiting for—someone to trust me throughout the months. I’m very thankful to coach Rald because he gave me the chance to come back and give my game and all,” said Morente, who recently earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at De La Salle University.

“Few more [improvements] needed. I feel like I still need to have a few more push,” she added.

Morente gave PLDT a huge boost on Tuesday, helping the High Speed Hitters topple erstwhile unbeaten Chery Tiggo in straight sets.

She was one of several High Speed Hitters who hit double digits, scoring 10 points as PLDT notched its second straight win.

Morente, though, knows she still has a lot to work on, especially her consistency.

“I need to be more consistent and have less errors. Of course, who wants to have errors? So I feel like it’s that—be more consistent and give support to the team. If I don’t score, I’ll be there on the defensive end. I know my role inside the court. If I can’t score, it’s okay, I’ll always be behind, me and Kath (Arado),” she said.

Mean Mendrez led the way for PLDT with 14 points while Jovielyn Prado and Dell Palomata added 12 apiece.

“The game turned out to be smooth. The process is tiring but they appreciate it when it works when what they were talking about turns into success. That’s what happened earlier. Whatever we planned for days, thankfully it showed up to give us the win,” said PLDT coach Rald Ricafort.
