CARMONA, Cavite—The Philippines took a hit in both team and individual competitions of the 43rd Queen Sirikit Cup on Wednesday at Manila Southwoods, but appear not so much concerned.
Moving day, after all, is just around the corner.
“I am looking forward to that moving day [onm Thursday],” team captain. Ann Granada said. “We need to forget what happened today and see how we can get into title contention tomorrow.”
In the team battle, the country fell to nine shots behind leader South Korea, which continued to show the way after 71s by Yoo Hyun-jo and Kim Min-sol.
That put the Koreans at 281, four shots ahead of India, who leaned on a spectacular finish by Avani Prashanth for a two-day total of 285.
Prashanth fired a six-under 66 and torched the final four holes of her round by going birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie. Vidhatri Urs chipped in a 77 for India’s second-round output of 143.
Defending champion Japan, China and Hong Kong were all tied at 288, followed by Thailand at 289 and host Philippines at 290.
Rianne Malixi shot a one-over 73 but still managed to stay tied for second in the individual race. Mafy Singson had a three-over 75 for the Filipinos, who discarded LK Go’s 80.
“Our girls were not able to adjust to the sudden shift of conditions at the Masters,” said Granada.
Prashanth moved to 10-under for the tournament after 36 holes, seven shots up on Malixi, Yoo and Fiona Xu of New Zealand.
