MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine lawn bowls team joined the bandwagon of medal-winning Filipino athletes after bringing home three gold and two bronze medals to finish second overall at the 14th Asian Lawn Bowls Championships held in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Rodel Labayo, a 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, and Elmer Abatayo ruled the men’s pairs and Marisa Baronda and Rosita Bradborn topped the women’s side as they celebrated the victory with men’s triples champions Ronald Lising, Leoncio Carreon Jr. and Hommer Mercado.

Baronda added a bronze medal in the women’s singles while the quartet of Mercado, Abatayo, Lising and Carreon mustered the courage needed in placing third in the men’s fours event.

With their string of medal performances, Team Philippines overcame its output of one silver and two bronzes at the previous Asian championships in 2018 China.
