MANILA, Philippines-The Fifa Women’s World Cup trophy made its way to the country on Wednesday for a number activities aimed at drumming up support for the Philippine women’s football team’s campaign for the global showpiece in July.
The gold-plated trophy was unveiled in an event held at Fairmont Hotel in Makati City led by Australian ambassador to the Philippines Hae Kyong Yu and New Zealand counterpart Peter Kell.
Fifa representative Sarah Gandoin and Philippine Football Federation general secretary Ed Gastanes also took part in the presentation of the trophy which weighs 4.6 kilos and stands 47 centimeters, according to the Fifa Museum.
A public event is set later in the day at nearby Glorietta Activity Center with activities that included an appearance by members of the team who are in the country.
The Philippines was the third stop of a busy trophy tour that will run until weeks before the World Cup takes place in both Australia and New Zealand.
The tour started in Japan before being brought to South Korea a few days ago.
The Filipinas were drawn in Group A along with host New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland, looking to make an impression in their first-ever World Cup stints.
