PVL: Petro Gazz halts F2 Logistics’ streak with straight set win
MANILA, Philippines — Petro Gazz sent F2 Logistics crashing back to earth with a bounce back 25-23, 25-13, 25-23 victory in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at Philsports Arena.
MJ Phillips led the Angels with 13 points including the game-winning block to halt the Cargo Movers’ two-game winning streak and regain their winning ways after a five-set loss to the PLDT High Speed Hitters last week.
Article continues after this advertisement“I’m really happy we pulled it together after the first set. We were really rattled and we’re just happy we communicated and got our composure. Proud of the team,” said Phillips, who had 10 attacks, two blocks, and two aces.
Jonah Sabete also scored 13 points and eight receptions, while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas 11 points and 14 digs as Petro Gazz improved to a 3-2 record, tying idle Chery Tiggo at No.4.
“I’m proud of the team. I thank the team for doing it. I just said they are capable of doing it and they believed in themselves, so they got it. I’m happy and I’m proud of these Angels,” said Petro Gazz coach Oliver Almadro.
Article continues after this advertisementGrethcel Soltones chipped in with 10 points, coming to the rescue in the third when they trailed 22-23 after Elaine Kasilag’s attack and Kim Fajardo’s ace.
Soltones tied the game with an off-the-block attack and lifted her team at match point, 24-23 before Phillips blocked Kasilag to win the game.
Kim Kianna Dy was the lone bright spot for F2 Logistics with 14 points off 12 attacks and two blocks, as Myla Pablo was limited to six points on 26 attack attempts and was benched in the third.
Kasilag and Aby Marano also scored six markers each with the Cargo Movers dropping to a 4-2 record in the third seed.
