MANILA, Philippines–Carlos Yulo moved on from a frustrating output last week and impressed the judges this time to seize the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise of the 2023 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series in Doha, Qatar.
The top Filipino gymnastics bet delivered a faultless routine to claim the highest score of 14.833 that saw Yulo soar with a variety of twists and impeccable aerial execution that dazzled the crowd at the Aspire Dome.
The second leg of the four-stage World Cup allowed the former two-time world champion to redeem himself from a non-podium performance in the same event in Cottbus, Germany last week.
Carlos Yulo 🇵🇭 turned in a phenomenal exercise, scoring 14.833 for the lead! He began with a 2.5 twist to front double pike. There was also a triple full side pass, 1.5 twist to Randi, and a 3.5 twist to close. Terrific execution throughout. Fabulous #Gymnastics. #FIGWorldCup pic.twitter.com/Ck6gKsTas4

Minami Kazuki pocketed the silver medal with 14.200 and Luke Whitehouse of Great Britain placed third with 13.966.
Yulo, the world champion in the floor exercise back in 2019 held in Stuttgart, Germany, finished second in the qualifications with 14.500.
Artem Dolgopyat of Israel, the winner in the initial leg, seemed headed to another gold after topping the eliminations, but the Olympic champion withdrew in the finals.
Two more gold medals remain on Yulo’s sights in the vault and parallel bars finale on Saturday.
