Sedrick Barefield open to give PBA another try

UTSUNOMIYA — Filipino-American guard Sedrick Barefield is not closing the door on declaring for the Philippine Basketball Association’s Rookie Draft.
“I’m just taking it day-by-day,” he told reporters when asked about his plans geared towards Asia’s pioneering pro league. “Obviously, I love it in Manila and the PBA’s great.”
“I want things to work out,” he added. “I just got to talk to my family, my people, coach (Brian) Goorjian and see where the best opportunities are going to be for me and my family.
Barefield’s draft stock should shoot up especially after exploding for 20 points off the bench in the Dragons’ hard-fought 96-90 win over host B.League champion Utsunomiya that had the Hong Kong-based club advancing to the knockout phase of East Asia Super League Champions Week here.
It could be recalled that Barefield expressed his interest in joining the 2022 PBA Rookie Draft, but failed to complete in time the documentary requirements set by the league.
He was even projected to be selected in a class that eventually featured eventual top two picks Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Jeremiah Gray.
Barefield said that he’s also keeping other doors ajar, but there are a lot of details to thresh out as far as following through with such options.
“There’s a lot of different rules as far as eligibility goes in those leagues, so I just gotta see what happens,” he said
