MANILA, Philippines–Adamson took care of business and pulled off a 25-21, 24-26, 25-14, 25-21 victory over Far Eastern University on Saturday at the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament.
Kate Santiago helped propel the Lady Falcons to their second win after three games with 18 points, 17 of them crucial attacks that kept the Lady Tamaraws at bay most of the time.
Lorence Toring added 14 points, three blocks and a pair of service aces as Adamson recovered lost ground in a recent defeat against the defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs, but it was the end-game heroics of Trisha Tubu that finished off the Tamaraws.
“We are not content with the performance that we showed. We need to get better, especially our consistency and the team’s composure,’’ said Toring.
The Lady Falcons allowed FEU to knot the count at one set apiece in the second set before turning it around quickly through the efforts of Santiago and Tubu together with Lucille Almonte and Toring.
“We have several lapses that we know we can improve on in training. Expect a much better Adamson next game,’’ said Tubu, who had 13 points, including her team’s last three attacks.
Alyzza Devosora and Jovelyn Fernandez put up a gallant stand for FEU that somehow slowed down the Lady Falcons, but successive errors took the opportunity away.
FEU fumbled one last time in the third and sent Adamson at matchpoint where Santiago’s crosscourt blow ended the one-sided set.
The Lady Tamaraws rose from seven points down and scored the last five points to steal the second frame.
Sheila Kiseo’s forceful smash finally put FEU ahead, 25-24, before she went for the kill in the ensuing play.
But their fate altered drastically over the next two sets as the Lady Falcons deprived FEU from mounting a rewarding comeback.
