MANILA, Philippines—Tokyo Olympian Jayson Valdez and Amparo Teresa Acuna claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Rifle/Pistol Shooting Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Valdez-Acuna tandem accumulated 16 points in the bronze face-off of the mixed 10-meter air rifle event, beating Malaysians Haritz Iklil and Alia Husna to the podium after the latter compiled only six points.

Indonesians Izzudin Afif and Audrey Zahra Dhiyaanisa clinched the gold after defeating silver medalists Yang Hwa Gyeong and Choo Byounggil of South Korea in the final.

Jakarta will likewise host the Asia Rifle and Pistol Championship in February 2024, a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Valdez will shoot for one of the 16 quotas available for Paris in the Asian championships if he hasn’t punched a ticket to the Olympics yet before the qualifying period ends June 9, 2024.
