With practically only two semifinal slots left, Petro Gazz and Chery Tiggo try to enhance their respective chances and shut the door on two others when they take on separate foes on Friday as the elimination round of the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference enters its homestretch at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Taking a two-game winning streak into its 4 p.m. battle with Akari, the Angels try to break a third place tie with idle PLDT at 4-2 and are seen as the favorites against the Chargers as coach Oliver Almadro and his charges press on to achieve their “realistic target” of at least making the Final Four.
At 6-1, Creamline has put a lock on the first playoff slot, with F2, at 5-2, practically given the second berth.
“That’s the immediate goal,” Almadro said in an earlier interview. “The players are happy playing for each other and they keep improving each game.”
The Crossovers, meanwhile, take on crowd-darling Choco Mucho in the 6:30 p.m. game, with a win moving them firmly back in the thick of the fight, especially if the Chargers manage to post an upset earlier.
The Flying Titans, like the Chargers, are clinging on to dear life as the troika of Kat Tolentino, Bea de Leon and Maddie Madayag has been checked with Choco Mucho losing four of its first six games.
