MANILA, Philippines—When Lyceum needed a hero to pull itself out of a losing spell, the Lady Pirates turned to Joan Doguna.
Doguna helped Lyceum get two very important wins this week after losing two in the week prior, which led her to be the recipient of the Collegiate Press Corps’ NCAA Player of the Week.
In Lyceum’s four-setter win against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, Doguna shone with 18 points, 12 attacks and six service aces to go along with 15 excellent digs.
Then Lady Pirates turned to Doguna once more with 13 points and 11 digs to notch a clean sweep against San Beda, 25-20, 25-16, 28-26.
Despite getting the weekly honor, Dogunas reiterated that they are still quite far away from the goal at hand—which is to win the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball crown.
“I’m happy but we’re not content. We still need to work to get the goal we all really want,” she said in Filipino.
Doguna beat College of St. Benilde’s Jade Gentapa, San Sebastian’s KJ Dionisio and Arellano’s Marianne Padillon for the weekly plum presented by San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Sports Commission.
As it stands, Doguna’s play for the Lady Pirates squad fueled the team to a 5-2 record, tying with Mapua at the third seed.
