Talk ‘N Text coach Chot Reyes describes this match as “monumental.”
The Tropang Texters, after a lackadaisical start, have become the hottest team in the PBA Governors’ Cup and will be gunning for a semifinal seat today when they clash against B-Meg at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Reyes could have talked about the 7:30 p.m. match as a good box-office draw since this will be the two teams’ first meeting after the Philippine Cup title series, which Talk ‘N Text lost in seven games, two months ago.
But it is not that.
Reyes wants to see in this game if his Texters have gotten better the way he wants it to be, and if his powerhouse squad—depleted by injuries of late—has what it takes to reach a title series for the sixth straight conference.
“It will be a monumental battle against B-Meg,” Reyes said Sunday night after Talk ‘N Text sewed up a third consecutive victory with a 113-111 nipping of crowd-darling Barangay Ginebra. “All we want to do is get better, and we are in for a tough week.”
A win would send the Texters to the next round in the company of the Llamados and the idle league-leader Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Alaska and Air21 clash in a game between also-rans in the 5:15 p.m. game.
With two squads already safely in, there are six more still in the running for the last four berths—Talk ‘N Text, Petron, Meralco, Ginebra, Powerade and Barako Bull.
Except for Talk ‘N Text, which is at 4-3, and Barako Bull (3-4), all have 4-4 records going into the final week of the eliminations.
