MANILA, Philippines — Vincent Astrolabio guns for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) world bantamweight championship when he takes on Aussie Jason Moloney on May 13.
BoxingScene.com reported that Astrolabio will see action against Moloney in an ordered vacant title fight, being a co-feature to the match between Janibek Alimkhanuly and Steven Butler for the WBO middleweight championship.
The 25-year-old Filipino boxer is currently WBO’s No.2 bantamweight fighter, holding an 18-3 record with 13 knockouts.
Astrolabio earned his opportunity after knocking out Nikolai Potapov in the sixth round of their December 17 fight in Las Vegas.
The pride of General Santos City, who also upset Guillermo Rigondeaux by unanimous decision in Dubai in February last year, won his last six matches and he has been living and training in Las Vegas.
Moloney, who won his last four fights with a 25-2 record including 19 KOs, is currently the No.1 bantamweight boxer of the WBO.
He beat Nawaphon Kaikanha by unanimous decision in 12 rounds last October 16 in Melbourne.
