UAAP: Ateneo posts back-to-back wins, beats UE in women’s volleyball
MANILA, Philippines-Ateneo picked up its second straight win by toppling University of the East, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, on Saturday at the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball.
Faith Nisperos powered her way to 18 points, 13 of them attacks, plus five blocks out of the Lady Blue Eagles’ 14 deflections and more than the entire UE squad’s four.
Article continues after this advertisement“What matters more is the performance of our team and our desire to win. Every win counts (in the second round),” said Nisperos.
The Blue Eagles improved to 3-5 and swept the Lady Red Warriors, who have yet to chalk up their first victory after eight games.
Lyann De Guzman backstopped Nisperos at the net with nine points and three blocks aside from eight digs, Takako Fujimoto tossed 14 excellent sets and Roma Doromal registered 16 digs and 10 receptions.
Article continues after this advertisement“We’ve practiced to be aggressive at the net. We hope to translate it to a game where we can effectively block more,” said Ateneo coach Oliver Almadro.
Janeca Lana posted 18 points, including 13 attacks, spiked by five service aces while KC Cepada likewise had 18 markers built on 15 kills and delivered three aces for the Lady Warriors.
“UE is not a team to be joked around, they’re a fighting team. For us, it’s still a process and wherever this takes us, we have to remain confident and possess a strong character from start to finish,” said Almadro.
