MANILA, Philippines—GBoy De Vega and Rainer Flor led University of Santo Tomas to its fifth straight win after sweeping Adamson, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 85 Men’s Volleyball tournament on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
De Vega delivered an all-around game with 12 points off eight attacks, three blocks, and an ace on top of five excellent receptions, while Flor provided six of UST’s 11 blocks.
Josh Ybanez, who was celebrating his 20th birthday, also contributed for the Golden Spikers with nine points, while Lorenz Senoron, who filled in the void left by Jay Rack Dela Noche, also scored nine markers.
UST improved to a 7-1 record, behind unbeaten leader NU, which won its first eight games.
“I am satisfied now because we won in straight sets, because remember in the first round, we had a nightmare five-setter. Then, on the game plan, although there were still errors, they are following directions so I am happy,” said UST coach Odjie Mamon.
Adamson, which was coming off its first win last Wednesday, couldn’t sustain its momentum as it slid to a 1-7 card. Leo Coguimbal and Francis Casas had five points each.

Meanwhile, Jian Salarzon and Ken Batas led Ateneo past University of the East, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, and improve their record to a 4-4 record.
Salarzon poured in 21 points, while Batas had 20 markers and eight digs as they tied La Salle in the fourth place.
“Every game is important, so we’re learning one game at a time. As long as we don’t lose sight of the goal to make it to the Final Four, we’ll take it one game and one training session at a time,” said Ateneo coach Timmy Sto. Tomas
Ken Culabat’s 18-point effort went for naught as UE dropped to 2-6. JP Mangahis had 16 markers.
