MANILA, Philippines — Inspired by former coach Ramil De Jesus, F2 Logistics moved on the cusp of winning the bronze medal in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference after turning back PLDT, 20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17, on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

With De Jesus watching the game a day after his return to La Salle in the UAAP, Kim Kianna Dy, Aby Marano, and the Cargo Movers shrugged off a first-set loss before hosting a block party against the High Speed Hitters with a conference-high 18 blocks to take Game 1 of their best-of-three battle for third series.

Dy led the way for F2 Logistics with 20 points, while Marano drilled 14 attacks and five blocks to finish with 19 markers putting F2 Logistics on the verge of its first podium finish in the PVL.

“He’s a huge inspiration to our team. We dedicated this game to him. Coach Reg kept reminding us that this is for coach Ramil,” said Marano in Filipino after providing energy to her teammates through her animated on-court celebration.

“I have to those [celebration] to boost the confidence of my teammates. It’s important to me because it also boosts my morale. My mindset is to have no doubt every time I get the ball. Zero doubt,” she added.

Ara Galang also showed her vintage form, leading the Cargo Movers in blocks with six on top of four attacks, and three aces to finish with 13 points and had 18 digs and 18 excellent receptions.

De Jesus, who last coached the Cargo Movers during their title run in the 2021 PNVF Champions League, also huddled his former team during the game.

“Coach Ramil was also actually giving us tips on what to do. He’s just really a big inspiration for all of us, the players, the coaches,” Dy said.

F2 Logistics coach Regine Diego also credited her former college mentor, who took the time to support the team.

“Coach Ramil’s presence was a big help. They were inspired. He also guided me through the game.  I’m very happy that he’s back,” Diego said.

The Cargo Movers try to sweep the series in Game 2 on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Jules Samonte and Dell Palomata powered PLDT with 14 points, while Jovy Prado had 13 markers and 12 receptions.
