MANILA, Philippines—Anyang KGC continued their winning ways after clinching the 2022-23 Korean Basketball League regular season title on Sunday.
Anyang secured its second season title after a 76-71 win over the Wonju DB Promy at Anyang Gymnasium.
Rhenz Abando helped his team to victory with eight points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and two rebounds in only 11 minutes.
The win, however, was just for formality with the KGC (37-16) already assured of the No. 1 spot in the standings ahead of second-running Changwon prior to the game.
Anyang’s latest feat comes not long after it ruled the East Asia Super League Champions Week earlier this month in Japan where the KGC beat their KBL rivals Seoul SK Knights in the final.
The KGC still have a regular season game left on Wednesday against the Goyang Carrot Jumpers before heading into the six-team playoffs where they will shoot for their fourth championship.
Joining Anyang in the playoffs are No. 4 Ulsan, fifth seed Goyang, No. 6 Jeonju and the Sakers and Knights, who will still face off for the No. 2 position.
It has been an impressive season for Anyang, which got off to a blistering start and at one point chalked up 10 consecutive victories.
