MANILA, Philippines—National University clinched a Final Four berth after dominating also-ran Adamson, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21, to stay unbeaten in 10 games in the UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at FilOil EcoOil Centre.

Michaelo Buddin led the Bulldogs’ balanced attack with 16 points on a 50% clip and had seven excellent receptions as they stretched their winning streak to 28 games dating back to the opening day of Season 81 in 2019.

“I’m so happy because the last time I played in the Final Four was still in high school before the pandemic in 2019. We’re eager to defend the title,” said the prized rookie Buddin in Filipino.

NU coach Dante Alinsunurin earned his eighth straight semifinals appearance dating back to Season 75 but he is also aiming for an elimination round sweep for an outright Finals berth with four games remaining.

“We need to sustain our performance every game and every practice because our goal is to get the championship. We’re also aiming to keep our win streak going,” said Alinsunurin in Filipino.

Besides Buddin, Nico Almendras also delivered the goods with 11 points, 19 excellent receptions, and eight digs. Obed Mukaba chipped in 10 points including two aces, while Ken Malinis added nine markers.

Setter Josh Retamar had 16 excellent sets on top of four points as NU had an efficient attacking, hitting 49-of-100.

“In this game, we started strong so we were able to control the pace. We sustained our high percentage in attacking in the second and third sets,” Alinsunurin said.

Adamson dropped its ninth loss in 10 games tied with the also-ran University of the Philippines.

Francis Casas led the Falcons with 11 points, while Evander Novillo added 10 markers.
