Olives wrests Senior Am lead by two
Tony Olives played well enough on another trying day at Camp Aguinaldo yesterday to assemble another 11-over-par 79 and grab a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the NGAP-Globe Business Philippine Senior Amateur golf championship.
The burly mainstay of multititled Canlubang in the PAL Interclub actually missed grabbing a bigger lead after finishing double bogey-double bogey for a 158 total in the event also backed by Pancake House, Titleist and Golf Depot.
Former champion Francis Gaston fired a day-best 75 to move up to second at 160, in the company of Valley Golf’s Bong Vilchez, who carded a 78.
Article continues after this advertisementDanny Morales fired an 82 and trailed by four strokes even as former champion Dave Hernandez, the Calatagan golf manager, became one of six players to crack 80, with his 77 putting him just five strokes behind with Pili Sison and Mari Hechanova.
Sison fired a 79 while Hechanova, the first-round leader, opened up with three straight bogeys and went on to finish with an 85.
Ricky Velasco held on to the Mid-Am lead with an 80 for 156, three ahead of Manfred Guangco, who fired an 83. Musong R. Castillo
