PBA: Ginebra’s Christian Standhardinger wins BPC award by big margin
MANILA, Philippines—Christian Standhardinger unanimously captured the Best Player of the Conference on Sunday for his lead role in Barangay Ginebra’s entry to the Finals of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Standhardinger received the individual award for the second time in his career before Game 4 of Ginebra’s title series with TNT at Smart Araneta Coliseum after garnering 1,110 points from statistics and votes from the media and players.
Article continues after this advertisementTNT’s RR Pogoy was a distant second with 672 points, followed by San Miguel Beer’s CJ Perez (561) and Standhardinger’s teammates Scottie Thompson (497) and Jamie Malonzo (456).
The 33-year-old big man first won the award in the 2019 Governors’ Cup when he was still with NorthPort.
He is the fourth player to win multiple BPCs for different teams, joining Willie Miller, Eric Menk and current Magnolia star Calvin Abueva.
Article continues after this advertisementIn receiving the honor, Standhardinger has been placed as one of the candidates for the season’s Most Valuable Player along with Thompson and San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo.
Fajardo bagged the BPC in the Philippine Cup while Thompson was hailed as the best player of the Commissioner’s Cup.
Standhardinger was tops in statistics with 534 points, in media votes with 506 and player votes with 70.
Forty-five percent of the statistical points, 30 percent of the media votes and 25 percent of the player votes were used to determine the winner.
Standhardinger came into Game 4 of the Finals with conference averages of 22.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists, emerging as Ginebra’s main man after Japeth Aguilar went down with a MCL sprain earlier in the eliminations.
