MANILA, Philippines—Perpetual Help star Louie Ramirez capped a dominant campaign with another championship and a Finals MVP on Sunday.
Ramirez was front and center in the Altas’ successful three-peat bid but the prolific spiker deflected the credit to Perpetual’s coaching staff, particularly head coach Sammy Acaylar.
“I’m proud of myself and the coaching staff because of how they handled us. This (award) really reflects in the coaching staff, especially coach Sammy. I’m super proud that he became my coach,” Ramirez said in Filipino after leading Perpetual Help’s 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22 victory over San Beda in the title decider.
Like Ramirez, Acaylar was also rewarded with a Coach of the Year plum.
Ramirez, who also claimed a beach volleyball crown earlier in the year, saved his best for last after being hit by cramps in Game 2, fueling the Altas with 26 points.
The 23-year-old also made a big impact on defense with 13 digs and 21 receptions.
Ramirez, who was also named Season MVP recently, averaged 25 points per game in the championship round.
