MANILA, Philippines—With the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four looming, Imee Hernandez is heating up at a perfect time for the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses.

Hernandez was hailed as this week’s Collegiate Press Corps Player of the Week after helping the Golden Tigresses after her career outing against Ateneo on Saturday.

In UST’s 25-22, 25-20, 27-29, 25-21 victory against Ateneo, the prized middle blocker recorded a career-best 24 points built on 19 attacks, three blocks and two aces.

Hernandez’s stellar performance fueled UST to an 8-3 record to tie with National University and Adamson at the second seed.

Hernandez, however, emphasized that the Tigresses are not yet satisfied with their winning ways as of late.

“We won’t stop. We won’t be satisfied with this [win] alone. We have to outdo ourselves every time. Like what coach (Kung Fu Reyes) says, what we do today should be better than what we did yesterday,” she said.

For the second week in a row, a member of Reyes’ squad took home the weekly prize presented by major sponsors San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Sports Commission.

Hernandez beat Eya Laure, La Salle’s Angel Canino, Ateneo’s Faith Nisperos and NU’s Bella Belen for the award.
