The early elimination was Eala’s fourth in a month’s span which include the Miami Open last month.

Maria, meanwhile, notched her second win over Eala this year after she also sent the Filipino tennis ace packing in the first round of the Thailand Open three months ago with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The 17-year-old Eala was a wildcard entry in the WTA 1000 Madrid Open where some of the best players in the world like No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland and Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka are competing.
