Alex Eala falls early in Madrid Open
MANILA, Philippines—The string of quick exits continued for Alex Eala.
Facing a much more experienced opponent, Eala was overwhelmed by Germany’s Tatjana Maria, 6-1, 6-1, to bow out in the Round of 128 of the Madrid Open at Caja Magica on Wednesday (Manila time).
Maria, the world No. 66, made quick work of Eala, whom she dispatched in only an hour and ten minutes.
The early elimination was Eala’s fourth in a month’s span which include the Miami Open last month.
Maria, meanwhile, notched her second win over Eala this year after she also sent the Filipino tennis ace packing in the first round of the Thailand Open three months ago with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The 17-year-old Eala was a wildcard entry in the WTA 1000 Madrid Open where some of the best players in the world like No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland and Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka are competing.
