MANILA, Philippines—Qatar has been selected as the host country for the Fiba Basketball World Cup 2027.
The Fiba Central Board said it was “impressed” with the Qatar Basketball Federations’ (QBF) bid to host the event due to the country’s modernization.
“The Central Board was impressed by the submission made by QBF. I would like to congratulate them on behalf of the Board for the quality of the work they have already completed in putting this bid together,” Hamane Niang, President of Fiba, said.
“While we are all looking forward to what we know will be another standout Fiba event when the action starts in Qatar, we will also enjoy the full journey to Doha.”
Qatar will be next in line after the Philippines, which is hosting this year’s World Cup from August 25 to September 13.

The QBF also confirmed that all venues for the 2027 games have been built, all inside the city of Doha.
Green technologies will also be used to make the next World Cup a carbon-neutral event, something that also played in favor of Fiba’s decision.
“We are very confident that this event will be one of the highest quality both on and off the court. Importantly, it will be delivered by a skilled and experienced team that has an excellent track record on a wide range of major international sporting events, including world championships or cups of more than a dozen other top Olympic sports,” Fiba Secretary General Andreas Zagklis explained.
“I believe 2027 will be a special experience in Doha for this flagship Fiba event,” he added.
Qatar also hosted the Fifa World Cup 2022.
