MANILA, Philippines – Perpetual Help stunned Letran, 69-66, Saturday night in the NCAA Season 88 men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Altas broke loose in the final period before staving off an end-game rally by the Knights.

Earl Thompson had 14 points, including a basket that gave Perpetual Help a 68-60 lead, 2:46 left.

Letran, which came off a huge win over San Sebastian in the season opener, pulled to within two, 66-68, after a triple by Kevin Alas with 10 ticks remaining.

Alas, who was far from his career-best 31-point game in his last outing, though missed a trey that would have forged overtime.

The Altas, who upped their mark at 2-0, also drew big plays from point guard Joel Jolangcob on both ends of the floor.
