Filipino bets for the Obstacle Course Race in the 32nd SEA Games. –Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation
MANILA, Philippines—Four Filipinos advanced to the Finals of the 100-meter Obstacle Course Race event in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at Chroy Changvar Convention Center, Cambodia on Wednesday.
Precious Cabuya and Jaymark Rodelas zoomed past the competition in the women’s and men’s individual 100m OCR elimination rounds, respectively.
The medal round of the 100m OCR event is on Saturday.
Cabuya completed the course with 33.128 seconds to get first place on the distaff side, while fellow Filipino Kaizen Dela Serna finished the race in 34.86 seconds to place behind Cabuya.
Dela Serna broke her own personal record of 39.42 seconds in the 2022 International Open while also advancing to the medal round.
Cabuya and Dela Serna dominated the competition with Indonesia’s Anggun Yolanda Samsul Hadi and Malaysia’s Wan Athirah Hidayah Ahmad Fuzli placing third and fourth with 41.22 and 01:01.87 seconds, respectively.
In the men’s category, Rodelas moves on to the final round after clocking in 25.09 seconds for first place, breaking his personal 27.12-second record. He tallied his first record in the 2022 International Open, much like Dela Serna.
Popoy Pascua, meanwhile, stayed behind his fellow Filipino, finishing the course in 26.19 seconds to advance to the Finals as well.
According to Atty. Al Agra, president of the Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation, Cabuya and Rodelas’ showings have broken world obstacle records but are still “subject to confirmation”
The OCR event made its debut in 2019 when the Philippines hosted the biennial meet. It was not included in the Hanoi SEA Games.
