Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit’s 3rd leg makes impact on inclusive sports tourism and sustainability
The sports tourism wave arrived in the Zamboanga Peninsula with a lot of power as it hosted the Zampen Open Water Swim 2023, a one-of-a-kind event held last Sunday April 30, organized by the Zamboanga Open Water Swim Club which showcased the beauty of the region. Initiated by the Department of Tourism – Zamboanga Peninsula Office and the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines, the event attracted sports enthusiasts and travelers around the country.
The third leg of the series of events highlighted the stunning natural beauty of Lake Maragang in Mt. Timolan, Tigbao and unique culture of the region. Natural environment preservation and conservation is the theme of the said event at the placid lake of Maragang where the different institutions such as DENR , PNP SAF AFP along with the Municipal Governemnt of Tigbao headed by Mayor Hon Eleazar Carcallas and the provincial government of Tigbao supported the said event.
During the event DOT 9 Regional Director Dara Cataluna along with the ever supportive Usec Myra Paz Valderroza- Abubakar who traveled again all the way from Zamboanga City to Tigbao made the event more meaningful with their inspiring message to the group.
“We wanted to create some unifying element for the people and the tribes, and that sports and the open water swim with the vast seascape in the Region will somehow unite them to foster healthier environment for the families the communities and ultimately for the whole Zamboanga and Mindanao region,” said RD Dara Cataluna.
While USec Myra highly emphasized the beauty of having Mindanao taking the lead in pioneering aqua sports tourism in the Philippines with the most pristine and unique landscape that could inspire other regions to do the same in their own respective regions. The regions are encouraged to participate in this significant event in Dakak set for May 28, 2023.
The Department of Tourism along with the organizing teams are committed to sustain the said initiative with sustainable programs which they will showcase along with potential National and International partner institution in sports with the help of advocates on sports development and green sustainability in the culmination event on May 28, 2023.
