PHNOM PENH—Kim Mangrobang gave her all in the final run amid the scorching heat to successfully retain the women’s duathlon title at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

Mangrobang picked up steam in the 20-kilometer bike after her 5km run start was a little bit shaky before scooting all the way to the finish in the 2.5km run finale at the Kep Beach Resort.

The three-time SEA Games triathlon champion clocked one hour, four minutes and 25.3 seconds while Vietnam’s Thi Phuong Trinh Nguyen reached the line and took the silver medal in 1:05:13.5.

Indonesia’s Maharani Wahyuningt placed third in 1:06:17.4.

Kira Ellis, Mangrobang’s checked in fifth (1:07.13), the same finish of Filipino-Spanish Fernando Casares, who missed out on a podium finish in men’s duathlon.

Mangrobang attempts to make it four in a row in women’s triathlon on Monday in a much-awaited face-off with Cambodia’s Margot Marabedian, a former French triathlete who ruled the women’s aquathlon sprint on Saturday.

Cebuano Andrew Kim Remolino earlier claimed a silver medal in the men’s aquathlon.

Mangrobang’s victory in duathlon sprint pushed the country’s collection to 10 gold medals.
