MANILA—Reigning titlist Stefano Marcelo pulled off a big comeback triumph and boosted his bid for a historic feat recently in the third leg of the 2011 Petron Karting Super Series at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex.
Marcelo stole the limelight from VJ Suba with a decisive maneuver in the final race to claim his second win and moved closer toward an unprecedented fourth Karter of the Year plum.
Suba, running on a borrowed engine from Kart Plaza, dominated the qualifying heat and the Pre-Final and controlled the tempo in the early goings of the Final race.
Marcelo, struggling to adjust his tire set-up, landed fourth in the qualifying heat and finished behind Suba in the Pre-Final. It was only in the Final race where Marcelo found the right set-up.
Just before end of the tenth lap, Marcelo wrested the lead as Suba opened wide at the backstretch and held it till the end.
