SEA Games 2023: Filipino bets hike athletics’ medal haul with silvers, bronze
MANILA, Philippines—Sarah Dequinan notched a silver medal in athletics for the second straight year in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at Morodok Techo National Stadium on Thursday.
Dequinan snagged silver in the women’s heptathlon event with 5,369 points. She was, however, unable to record a new personal best with last year’s 5,381 points staying as her career-high.
Article continues after this advertisementHer Vietnamese rival Linh Na Nguyen took the gold with 5,403 points while Thailand’s Sunisa Khotseemueang completed the podium with 5,253 points.
Robyn Brown also won the silver medal in the women’s 400m hurdles after finishing the course in 56.51 seconds.
Vietnam bets Thi Huyen Nguyen and Thi Ngoc Nguyen bagged the gold and bronze medals, respectively.
Article continues after this advertisementFilipino representatives Ronne Malipay and Harry Diones capped off the athletics events on Thursday with two more medals.
Malipay finished in second place in the men’s triple jump category while Diones settled for a third place finish in the same event.
Malaysia’s Andre Anura jumped over both Filipinos for the gold.
They all added to the Philippines’ medal haul in the SEA Games led by gold medals from EJ Obiena (pole vault), Janry Ubas (long jump) and Eric Cray (400m hurdles).
Cray ruled his pet event for the sixth straight SEA Games.
