MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines shone anew with two more medals in the swimming events of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at Morodok Techo National Stadium: Aquatics Center on Thursday.
The team of Jasmine Alkhaldi, Miranda Renner, Teia Isabella Salvino and Thanya Angelyn Dela Cruz bagged the silver medal in the women’s 4×100, finishing with a combined time of 4:11.82 minutes.
They were five seconds behind eventual gold medalists Faith Khoo, Jing Wen Quah, Letitia En Yi Sim and Ting Wen Quah of Singapore. Thailand came away with the bronze medal.
Alkhaldi added another medal to the country’s haul in the women’s 50m butterfly category.
Alkhaldi clocked in a 27.02-second finish, sufficient for a third place finish while Thailand’s Jenjira Srisa-Ard and Singapore’s Teng Wen Quah took the first and second places, respectively.
The Philippines will go home with a 2-7-7 gold-silver-bronze medal tally in the SEA Gambes 2023, an improvement from 2022’s 1-3-3 haul.
The country’s two gold medals are courtesy of Salvino, who ruled the women’s 100m backstroke, and Xiandi Chua, who topped the 200m backstroke.
