PHNOM PENH—Irish Magno sought revenge, but the Tokyo Olympian ran through a smart and agile Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand to settle for a silver medal on Saturday for the second Southeast Asian Games in a row.
Jitpong cleverly eluded Magno’s attacks with a brisk footwork and delivered several crisp counter punches that merited the blessings of the judges on her way to grabbing the gold anew via unanimous decision in the women’s 54kg category.
Magno and Jitpong traded blows in the third round with the Filipino getting the last say.
It wasn’t enough though as the Thai slugger pummeled her rival with accurate hits while moving out within range of Magno’s fists.
Jitpong also claimed Magno’s scalp during the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
