PHNOM PENH—Francis Casey Alcantara and Ruben Gonzales made sure to keep the Southeast Asian Games men’s doubles tennis crown in their backyard.
The marvelous Filipino duo downed Indonesia’s Nathan Barki and Christopher Rungkat in a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 win on Saturday night at the 32nd SEA Games.
Team Philippines refused to surrender the doubles title for the past three editions of the 11-nation sports fest with Alcantara helping the country’s bid in the 2019 SEA Games and Gonzales teaming up with Treat Huey last year at the Hanoi Games.
Their victory at the Morodok Techo Tennis Centre capped a sensational day for Team Philippines, which also netted four golds in the taekwondo and one in boxing courtesy of flyweight Ian Clark Bautista.
Filipino athletes have now amassed 37 gold medals with three more days of competition prior to the closing ceremonies on May 17.
