MANILA, Philippines–Robert Bolick is looking ahead to his Japan stint with B.League second division side Fukushima Firebonds which he described as rewarding.
“I am so excited for this new chapter of my life and I can’t wait to play for you guys in Japan. I know the journey will be all worth it!” Bolick said in an Instagram post Tuesday, a day after the Firebonds confirmed signing the former NorthPort gunner.
“Thank you for giving me a chance to showcase my talent and skills in basketball. For believing in me and trusting in me! I will make you guys proud and I won’t let you down.
Bolick became the latest Filipino cager to try his luck overseas after spending four seasons with the Batang Pier in the PBA.
Under PBA rules, Bolick has the option of returning home within the next two seasons or otherwise wait until after the 52nd season in 2028.
Bolick expressed his gratitude to his former employee while hinting a PBA return in the unforeseeable future.
“Huge thanks and appreciation to the [NorthPort] team management, coaches and staff for the [four-year] battle we had. See you around. PBA jersey No. 8 signing off for now,” he said.
The Japan exodus ends years of rumors surrounding Bolick’s future.
Bolick signed a one-year extension with NorthPort in February 2022 and there were talks of him heading to Taiwan after that deal expired during the early stages of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
But both parties agreed to extend the deal which elapsed last April 30 so that Bolick can finish out the PBA season.
Fukushima went 28-32, missing the playoffs of the recent B.League Division 2 and is hoping to improve on that record with Bolick in tow.
