SEA Games 2023: Trixie Lofranco delivers PH’s fifth gold in arnis
PHNOM PENH—Trixie Mary Lofranco got the approval of the judges to rule the women’s individual anyo non-traditional open weapon in arnis on Tuesday at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
The 19-year-old forms specialist netted an accumulated top score of 29.500 points to beat hometown favorite Lath Sophandaroth of Cambodia (29.100) and Myanmar’s Khin Khin Khant (28.800).
Article continues after this advertisementLofranco rode on the earlier success of arnisadors Dexler Bolambao, Maria Ella Alcoseba, Charlotte Ann Tolentino and Jedah Mae Soriano as Team Philippines collected five out of the 12 golds in the country’s national sport.
Bolambao pummeled Cambodia’s Ty Prakponlue heavily to rule the full contact live stich men’s bantamweight division, 3-0, on Monday after the comely Alcoseba subdued Myanmar’s Moe Moe Aye, 3-0, in the same weight class for women.
Tolentino trounced Moe Moe Aye, 2-0, in the finals of the women’s full contact padded stick bantamweight class while Soriano topped the lightweight division of the same discipline with a 2-0 triumph over Cambodia’s Suon Heangsela.
