A lean but mean 21-strong field will be shooting for a hefty paycheck and the honor of becoming the first champion of the ladies version of the P1 million ICTSI Philippine Masters at the tree-lined military layout starting Wednesday.
Harmie Constantino and Daniella Uy banner the compact roster in the 54-hole event that will be held on the same week as the 72-hole men’s version where Jessie Balasabas—the winner when the event was last held in 2018—is the defending champion.
“Hopefully, I also play well at Villamor,” Constantino said a few days after nipping Uy in sudden death for the Luisita title of the circuit run by the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour.
Luisita, that majestic Robert Trent Jones creation in Tarlac, has basically the same character as the Pasay layout, which penalizes errant tee shots and requires precision approaches.
Constantino knows the bumps and slopes of Villamor like the back of her hands, using that local knowledge to the hilt to rule the first-ever Ladies Match Play championship last year over crack amateur Rianne Malixi.
