Harold Alarcon shows ‘huge improvement’ as UP wins anew

MANILA, Philippines—Harold Alarcon starred for University of the Philippines’ win in its all-UAAP affair with National University, 72-65, in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup at San Juan Arena on Saturday.

Alarcon finished with 16 points for the Fighting Maroons, seven in the fourth quarter, to give UP a 5-2 record in the preseason.

“I think he’s been taking shots he’s been working on. The timing and getting of his shots, I think is a huge improvement,” coach Goldwin Monteverde said.

Bonifacio continued his string of stellar performances in the preseason with a 16-point outing to go with eight rebounds as the Cardinals improved to a 4-2 card.

Joshua Abastillas finished with 11 markers for the Chiefs, who remained winless in six games.

College of St. Benilde also notched a win on Saturday after outlasting San Beda, 96-87, in a Season 98 Final Four rematch.

Migs Oczon and Robi Nayve were in their zones for the Blazers (5-2), as they finished with 24 and 25 markers, respectively.

Brian Sajonia starred for the Red Lions with 21 markers but they still crashed to a 2-4 record.

San Sebastian likewise got earned a 91-83 victory against Jose Rizal University in another of NCAA teams.

Reggz Gabat introduced himself in a big way for the Golden Stags (2-4) with 23 points, sinking five triples in the process.
