Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit: Dakak’s first ever sporting event

Zampen Open Water swim circuit 4th leg has been yet again a memorable experience for our swimmers, guests, and families. Another historic event for Dakak beach resort in Dapitan City, Zamboanga Del Norte.

More than 200 participants from all over the regions of the Philippines took part in the event to test their skills and endurance in the 1.5km, 3km, and 5km swim at the famous cove of Dakak. Organizers and participants pushed for green advocacy with a desire to create a positive impact on climate change by being responsible and being more intentional about taking care of our landscape and seascape giving importance to environment preservation in Mindanao

It had gathered athletes and swimmers from all walks of life and different generations of the young and old. The youngest participant is 6 years old with over 40 kids participated in the open water swim. It was such a pleasant sight to see families celebrate together as their participants swam to the finish line as they complete their swim.

New participants also joined for the first time and had a great time trying their best to challenge themselves in swimming.

Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit 2023  paved the way for the athletes to build experience and discover more of their potential as a swimmer. It has empowered and encouraged them to train more as they look forward to the upcoming open swim events in the future.

Along with the main event, visitors and participants were introduced to other sporting activities such as a frisbee exhibition game between Team Kayumanggi Manila and Dapitan Ultimate. A free frisbee clinic was also opened for the locals and visitors to learn the sport catering to beginners and for those who are interested to try. It was fun and interesting as well as the open MMA demo by Mark Striegl. Participants and guests who joined were able to learn the basics which sparked interest in MMA as well.

Overall the experience has been amazing having an open water swim showcasing the beauty of Zamboanga at the same time giving each and everyone- the participants and guests a great learning experience inspiring one another through sports, and community. Each of the 4 legs was unique and different while connecting with nature as well as exerting efforts on preserving it.

We also witnessed the power of unity and passionate support of the government officials, our Regional directors RD Dara Cataluna of Region 9, RD Krisma Rodriguez, Undersecretary Myra Valderrsa-Abubakar, and Dakak resort’s GM Lana Jaloslos, and honorable Mayor Bullet Jaloslos.

It is also thanks to the relentless commitment and dedication of the ZamPen Open Water Swim club to start and organize to make a momentous and historical event possible with the vision to help develop eco-sports tourism in Mindanao and eventually make it nationwide in the future.
