MANILA, Philippines—Kai Sotto continues his build-up in hopes of securing a roster spot for the upcoming NBA Summer League in July after he worked out with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 7-foot-3 center on Wednesday posted an Instagram story at the Mavericks’ training facility, where he reportedly tried out.

Sotto’s B.League team, the Hiroshima Dragonflies, said the 21-year-old big man will play in the Summer League when they re-signed the Asian import for another season in Japan — with an option to cancel his contract if he makes it to the NBA.

Sotto, who went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, continues to chase his ultimate dream of becoming the first Filipino homegrown athlete to play in the league.

The former Ateneo high school star was also reportedly working out at the Utah Jazz’s facility the past week.

Sotto on Tuesday also got a call-up from Gilas Pilipinas as part of the 21-man pool for the Fiba World Cup 2023 in August.

Being part of the pool ended the speculations of Sotto’s unavailability for the national team after he recently expressed that he remains committed to playing for the country.

Gilas coach Chot Reyes also said that the team needs the young big man, who played two seasons for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia’s National Basketball League.
