MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Gerflor Defenders introduced their middle blockers for their maiden Premier Volleyball League campaign in the 2023 Invitational Conference this June.

Gerflor on Thursday continued to unveil its players with Ethan Arce, Ranya Musa, and Andrea Marzan playing in the team’s pro debut.

Arce, who played for University of the Philippines in the past two UAAP seasons, is joining her teammate Alyssa Bertolano in forgoing their remaining playing years and taking their talents to the Quezon City-based club.

The Fighting Maroons, who only won one of their 14 games in Season 85, already lost two young guns with the 22-year-old middle blocker taking her act to the pros.

The Defenders are also bringing in seasoned players Marzan and Musa to protect their frontline.

Musa, who was part of Cignal from 2019 to 2022, is returning to the pro ranks and bringing her championship experience from College of Saint Benilde’s breakthrough championship in the NCAA seven years ago.

Marzan, who was an Army Lady Trooper last conference, is joining a new team as her military squad opted to skip the tournament due to lack of players.

Gerflor, one of the three new PVL teams with Farm Fresh and Foton, has already unveiled nine players including opposite spiker Shannen Palec, liberos Julia Angeles and Pia Sarmiento as well as setters Fhen Emnas and Sarah Verutiao.

Coach Edgar Barroga will be calling the shots for the Defenders.
