AVC: Philippines dumps Macau to reach quarterfinals
MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines made quick work of Macau in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Challenge Cup For Women, 25-14, 25-12, 25-9, in Indonesia on Monday.
It only took the Philippines 63 minutes to secure its seat in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Philippine side dominated in the blocking department with 11 attacks off blocks compared to Macau’s two.
Coach Jorge Souza de Brito’s wards were successful in 40 attacks, courtesy of core players Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, AC Miner and newly-minted Akari player Faith Nisperos.
Nisperos was key in the second set, capping off a 6-1 run in the offing with a kill to put the Nationals at match point, 24-10.

Up next for the Philippines is Indonesia on Tuesday. Indonesia also crushed Macau to begin its AVC tilt, 25-7, 25-18, 25-8.
