Escalante bags back-to-back karting victory at Boomland

MANILA—Basti Escalante of Tuason Racing School notched his second straight sweep recently in the third leg of the 2011 National Karting Super Series at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex.

The wins catapulted Escalante, a De La Salle Grade 7 student, to solo leadership in the Formula SL Novice class.

Escalante’s feat was a big improvement from his fourth place debut in the said class after clinching the Mini-ROK crown last season. He now holds a total of 204 points, just two points ahead of erstwhile leader Sacha Feliciano.

“It’s quite tough at the start, but coach Mike’s (Tuason) instructions further boosted my confidence despite the high-speed technical track and the pressure from equally talented rivals,” said Escalante, who is supported by Tuason Racing School, Castrol and Oakley.

In all three races, Basti broke away from the pack and wound up with no less than a six-second margin over the runner-up.

The qualifying heat saw Escalante win by 8.5 seconds over Feliciano, a feat he repeated in the Pre-Final.

Escalante again proved his consistency in the finals as he wrapped up the 28-lap race in 14 minutes and 26.881 seconds.
