MANILA, Philippines—Carlos Yulo had a choice to feel ecstatic after winning three gold medals in the recently concluded Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Sunday, but instead, he saw it just as the beginning.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Yulo said that his triumph in the Singapore tilt was just him “getting started.”

“Another successful competition — qualified for the world championships and we’re just getting started,” wrote the Tokyo Olympian. “Still lots of room for improvement, just taking it one step at a time.”

Other than his gold medal wins in parallel bars, vault and floor exercise, he also grabbed the silver medal in the individual all-around category.

Yulo tallied a 14.299 average triumph over Uzbekistan’s Abdulaziz Mirvaliev (14.083) and Korea’s Jaeho Kim (13.766) in the floor exercises.

In the parallel bars, meanwhile, the 23-year-old athlete earned 15.266 points to beat Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka (15.133) and China’s Dehang Yin (15.100).

Yulo concluded his performance with a bronze medal in the high bar (14.033) behind gold medalist Hao Tian of China (14.533) and silver performer Oka (14.533).

According to Yulo, snagging all his medals was a challenge in itself, considering that the challenges heading into the Asian tilt.

“There were many challenges prior and during the competition but I managed to get back on track and perform in my best condition! So thankful for all the people who genuinely supported me — you know who you all are.”

Up next for the two-time world champion is the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium late September, which is a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
