MANILA, Philippines—The pair of Filipino ace Alex Eala and Indonesian partner Beatrice Gumulaya’s run in the Open Villa De Tauste-Tomas Arrieta and Altra Logistica came to a halt on Friday in Spain.

Eala, who recently graduated from the Rafa Nadal Academy, and Gumulaya fell victim to the pair of Australia’s Alana Parnaby and Mexico’s Victoria Rodriguez in the quarterfinal, 6-4, 3-6, 6-10.

After taking the first set, the tandem of Eala and Gumulaya went into the second with momentum, only to be denied by Parnaby and Rodriguez in the middle part of the salvo.

After opening the penultimate set with a 3-1 lead, the Filipino-Indonesia tandem failed to garner any more points with Parnaby and Rodriguez registering five unanswered to win the second salvo, 6-3.

Eala and Gumulaya didn’t taste the lead after that.

Both Asian aces punched their quarters ticket on Tuesday when they defeated the pair of Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers (Spain) and Elena Milovanovic (Serbia) in sweeping fashion, 6-2, 6-1.

It has been a rough stretch of days for Eala, as earlier this week, she took an early exit in the singles ITF tournament after swallowing a 1-6, 1-2 loss at the hands of Destanee Aiava from Australia.
