Lascuña ties for second
PASURUAN, East Java, Indonesia—Antonio Lascuña birdied the last hole to cap a 4-under-par 68 and secure his place in a three-way tie for second place in the Taman Dayu Championship where Sujjan Singh of India completed a sensational wire-to-wire victory Saturday.
Two weeks after topping the Philippine Golf Tour’s ICTSI-Southwoods leg, Lascuña picked up $6,025 (about P251,000) as he finished with a 272 total like Australians Michael Moore, who rallied with a 66, and Anthony Choat, who also carded a 68.
Singh’s 10-shot advantage going into the final round never looked threatened and he cruised to a first victory outside India with a closing even par 72 and a 22-under-par 266 total at the majestic Taman Dayu Golf and Resort. His earlier rounds were 64-63-67.
“I have to dedicate my win to my new born daughter Serena and also to my sister. I just welcomed a baby girl in May and you start to feel that golf is not everything. That kind of eases the pressure and it worked for me this week,” said Singh, who won $13,125 in the inaugural $75,000 Asian Development Tour (ADT) event.
“It was good fun and I’m not disappointed with how I finish. Singh had a huge lead and it was tough to chase him down,” said Lascuña, an Asian Tour regular.
After opening with a 72, Lascuña shot a 69 in the second round then tied the course record of 63 to climb into a tie for second after 54 holes.
Mars Pucay closed with a 69 and forged a tie for 11th place with Jay Bayron (73) at 279. Each won $1,368.
James Lam (69) and Charles Hong (70) wound up at 283 while Michael Bibat finished a stroke back at 284. Asian Tour News
