Jessica Miclat ‘heartbroken, confused’ after missing out on Filipinas’ World Cup roster
One of the players cut from the Fifa Women’s World Cup roster didn’t mince words about missing out on a chance to represent the Philippines in the global football competition.
“Gutted, heartbroken, disappointed and confused,” Jessica Miclat said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “but as the saying goes, everything happens for a reason and I have faith knowing God’s plan is bigger than my own.”

Coach Alen Stajcic not only picked 23 players but three reserves who could be included before the World Cup in the event of an injury or illness.

The Filipinas mentor later described that the squad selection was not as easy as it looked.
“I will continue to stay true to myself as a person and player and not let one person’s decision or opinion of me change that,” Miclat said. “I hold my head up high knowing I did everything I could to compete for a roster spot both at my professional club and during pre-camp.
“My story and experience involving the national team these past months will be shared soon when I feel ready and I hope I can continue to represent the Philippines again in the future in a healthier environment,” she added.
Miclat ended her post not only by expressing appreciation for those who commiserate but also make a plea surrounding her circumstance.
“I kindly ask those fans who have supported me and the team over the years to not assume I am injured or attack my character or my family’s character if you don’t know the full story. This is an emotional time for me and my family and what has been said isn’t to take away from the team’s journey and historic run, but comes from a place of care for me,” she said.
“I appreciate and thank you again for your support over the years and ask to continue to support women’s football and the Philippines during this journey. Now time to regroup, spend international break at home and get ready for the second half of my club season. No matter how many times I get knocked down, I will keep getting up!” added Miclat who plays for Swedish club Eskilstuna United DFF.
